Clap Hands
Care and I watched a (recorded) episode of SNL the other night, one from a week or two previous that featuered Hugh Laurie as the host (Dr. House to some, and I’ve previously mentioned him as a Blackadder co-star) and Beck as the musical guest. Whenever I do bother with watching SNL, which isn’t very frequently these days unless I’m really quite bored on a Saturday night, then I invariably take advantage of the musical numbers to go fix a snack, run to the loo, or stare sullenly out the window at the building across the street. I’m watching for comedy, not a music video. There’s a joke there to be made, claiming if I were actually watching for comedy I wouldn’t be watching SNL to begin with, but that’s a digression. The point is that I’ve never been a particular fan of Beck, but after watching him perform I’m starting to think twice about that. The second song they did was called “Clap Hands”, and is a really catchy percussion-centric tune. The presentation is also very snappy and put together quite well; from the look of the set up on the table, to the puppets (which are a part of Beck’s world tour this year, according to Wikipedia). Of course, someone has uploaded a video of the performance to YouTube, which I recommend you go check out.
