Quick honey, wipe the hard drives!

Wednesday, June 21st, 2006

I was visited by The Man last night. Around 12:30am, Care and I were enjoying an episode of American Dad, when we heard a very loud knock at the door. We exchanged concerned looks, unsure of whether we should answer it right away. Then came the knocking again, louder even this time; loud enough that it startled us both into moving quietly next to the door to try and discern who on earth would be outside at this hour. But perhaps I’m getting ahead of myself here…

A brief Stanley Cup followup

Wednesday, June 21st, 2006

Seeing as I posted a few times last week about the Edmonton Oilers, it seems only fair that I round things out with a quick note-for-posterity’s-sake that the Oilers did not win the Cup after all. A very sad affair overall, but it’s hard to fault the team for anything. They put forth a tremendous effort, and the fact they made it to the seventh game of the finals at all was nothing short of a miracle. It really felt like a strong team effort, and while I’m sure it isn’t really any consolation to them at this point, I hope they still feel proud of how far they made it.

The Oilers have made a fan out of me, at any rate; here’s looking forward to another year of exciting hockey from them, and a good Stanley Cup showing, particularly if the Habs are eliminated in the first round again…

The Oilers live to fight another day

The Oilers took the game with a shorthanded goal, in sudden death overtime, on a breakaway by Pisani. What. An. Amazing. Goal. Keep your eyes peeled for a downloadable instant replay, and treat yourself if you didn’t get a chance to watch the game live. The game this coming Saturday will be back in Edmonton, and promises to be just as exciting as tonight’s was.

CBC hockey blog

CBC.ca has (or perhaps had, depending on when you’re reading this) a neato idea: have someone blog the Stanley Cup finals. You can read the blog itself here. I personally enjoyed the blogger’s comments under Moments to game time, which read “Perhaps our last look at the Carolina anthem singer. She’s got a lovely set of, um, pipes.

Priceless.

All of our hopes now rest on Don Cherry

Wednesday, June 14th, 2006

We’re down to the wire hockey-wise, as within a few short hours from now the Edmonton Oilers will be facing off against the Carolina Hurricanes for what might very well be the last game of the Stanley Cup playoffs. It’s a best of seven-games series, and Carolina is already ahead three games to one. That means Carolina only needs to win one of the next three scheduled games in order to capture the Cup, whereas Edmonton would have to win all of them. For Canadian hockey fans like myself who have found themselves cheering for Edmonton as the last Canadian team alive in the playoffs, the odds are not in our favour.
